HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Three weekend shootings that left one person dead and 10 wounded prompted Hartford officials Monday to impose a 30-day curfew for city youth.
Mayor Eddie A. Perez and Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts also announced the creation of a "shooting team" responsible for prosecuting suspects in the cases, The Hartford Courant reported.
Ezekiel Roberts, 21, who police said was affiliated with gangs and had a violent criminal past, was shot dead and several others, including a 7-year-old boy and 17-month-old girl, were wounded Saturday after the city's West Indian Pride Parade.
In the other weekend incidents, two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting early Saturday and two teenage boys were shot multiple times on a city street Sunday afternoon.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, anyone under age 18 found on Hartford's streets without a parent or adult will be picked up by police, the mayor said. They will be held at a community center until picked up by a parent.
Police put together a "most watched list" of 25 suspects associated with gun violence in the city, Perez said.
