TEHRAN, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- An Iranian leader said Saturday that Iran is on the path of progress.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the country's supreme leader, said Iran being considered a superpower in the Middle East shows the country is on the right path, Press TV of Iran reported.

"In today's world that is governed by the logic of force, it is only natural for the Islamic Republic, which refuses to bow to global pressures, to be faced with various obstacles," Khamenei said in a meeting with Iranian ambassadors.

"The fact that today Iran is considered as a regional power or even a superpower proves that we are making progress," he added.

Khamenei also said the increasing popularity of Islamic thought and the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance show Iran's success on the global stage.
