Gaza rocket firings break cease-fire

TEL AVIV, Israel, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Rocket fire from northern Gaza has broken the relative calm of an Israeli-Hamas cease-fire, though authorities reported no injuries or damages.

A Qassam rocket landed in an open area early Saturday evening near where another rocket landed Wednesday, also causing no injuries, reported Ynetnews. That rocket landed as thousands gathered near a kibbutz to mark the third anniversary of the Israeli disengagement from Gaza.

Yesha Council spokesman Yishai Hollander argued the rocket attacks showed the failure of that strategy.

"Those who thought the disengagement would enable us to get away from terror realized that terror is chasing them," he told Ynet. "We're being hit by Qassams and mortar shells across the south. By now, everyone knows that the withdrawal led to a sharp rise in terror. There's nobody who thinks otherwise today."
