TOKYO, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Japan's foreign minister admitted Friday Japan had kept quiet about a Chinese food poisoning outbreak -- at China's request.

Japan is having a food poisoning outbreak of its own, caused , as in China, by pesticide-tainted gyoza, the Japan Times said. The offending products in the two countries are from the same company.

Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura said he knew of the Chinese situation since early July and had been criticized for keeping quiet.
