TOLEDO, Spain, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- A British tourist died in a parachuting accident in Spain after apparently blacking out on his first solo jump, officials say.

Andrew Bearne, 39, died after crash-landing near Toledo in central Spain despite attempts of two fellow Britons to revive him.

Two ambulances and a helicopter rushed to the scene but he was pronounced dead before arriving at a hospital, the Daily Mail said. An autopsy was planned.

A spokeswoman for the Airelibre parachuting school said Bearne's chute had opened on schedule and he had been following radio instructions until he was just under 1,000 feet from the ground when he appeared to lose contact.

She said Bearne suffered an accident on landing and made no attempt to break.
