GALVESTON, Texas, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Two bottlenose dolphins washed ashore when Tropical Storm Edouard hit Texas have been returned to the sea after a brief period of rehab.
The dolphins were released Wednesday, KHOU-TV in Houston reported.
The adult dolphins were found within 50 yards of each other late Tuesday on a beach on the Bolivar Peninsula. They were taken by truck to the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network's saltwater rehabilitation tank in Galveston.
Heidi Whitehead said one of the dolphins had some trouble breathing until it was placed in the tank, but once in the water both appeared to be fine and showed they could feed on their own when live shrimp were added.
The dolphins were tagged in Galveston and then trucked back to Crystal Beach and released.
A third dolphin was reported to have stranded in the Galveston area during the storm but that one was pushed back in before the stranding network arrived.
