SEATTLE, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Prosecutors in Seattle say they may bring new charges for the re-trial of a man accused of killing a woman at the Jewish Federation and wounding five others.

The attack in downtown Seattle occurred in July 2006.

At a hearing Wednesday, Deputy Prosecutor Erin Ehlert said new evidence in the form of telephone recordings Naveed Haq made from jail suggest that his attack had a political motive.

In June, a jury was unable to reach a verdict on most of the charges. Haq's lawyers argued during his trial that he was insane.

John Carpenter, one of Haq's lawyers, said that the audio tapes bolster their argument that he was not responsible for his actions. Carpenter said that in one conversation Haq says that his parents "should be proud" of what he had done.

Superior Court Judge Paris Kallas set a March date for a new trial. Ehlert said that she will prepare a motion on amending the charges for an October hearing.
