ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf says he will attend the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Summer Olympic Games on Friday after all.
After officials initially said Musharraf had canceled his plans to visit Beijing due to domestic concerns, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan issued another report hours later saying the trip was on again, CNN reported Wednesday.
"In view of our special relations with China, the president has decided to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics," the Pakistani news service said, quoting a foreign office spokesman.
The wavering Olympics commitment came as Pakistan's ruling People's Party was considering whether it should demand Musharraf resign or threaten impeach him, a party spokesman told the broadcaster.
