ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Caylee Anthony's grandfather alleged in a television interview the Florida girl's mom stole two gas cans shortly before the youngster disappeared.

George Anthony told Fox News Tuesday night the containers and about $50 worth of gasoline disappeared from his backyard tool shed in Orlando June 24 and he saw one of them in the trunk of a car belonging to his daughter, Casey Anthony, later that day.

The Orlando Sentinel said Orange County, Fla., sheriff's investigators recovered the cans from Casey Anthony's home Aug. 1.

Casey Anthony remains under scrutiny in the baffling disappearance of her daughter, who went missing in Orange County, Fla., nearly a month before Anthony reported her missing.

Detectives have said they discovered unidentified stains and a foul odor in the trunk when they searched Anthony's car last month.

Casey Anthony remained in jail Wednesday after being formally charged with child neglect and lying to police.
