20 pounds of marijuana seized during raids

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Narcotics investigators have allegedly seized 20 pounds of marijuana during raids of four San Diego medical marijuana dispensaries, authorities say.

Federal authorities alleged that the California sites said the raids occurred after it was learned the locations were not dispensing the drug under state Proposition 215, which allows marijuana to be sold legally for serious ailments, the San Diego Union-Tribune said Wednesday.

DEA spokeswoman Eileen Zeidler said in addition to the large drug seizure Tuesday, three men were also arrested and charged with marijuana possession with intent to sell and marijuana sales.

A 30-year-old San Diego resident was also arrested following a related raid of an area home and currently faces the same charges along with a charge of Ecstasy possession.

Meanwhile, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to push forward with its California Supreme Court lawsuit. The Union-Tribune said the lawsuit challenges the current state requirement that each California county must provide government identification to patients qualified to receive medical marijuana.
