MONTREAL, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A Canadian hospital in Montreal is investigating why a full-term pregnant woman was sent home twice and ended up giving birth in her bathroom.

Tracy Alphonse, 21, first went to St. Mary's Hospital Center Friday night but was told to go home, The Gazette newspaper reported Tuesday. Saturday, her water broke and an ambulance took her back to St. Mary's, she told the newspaper.

"Even after my water broke, I was sent away and told I was wasting their time and if I came back by ambulance, I would have to pay for the transportation," she told the French-language Journal de Montreal newspaper.

Hours after getting back home, she gave birth to a healthy 6-pound, 3-ounce girl in her bathroom, aided by her boyfriend.

St. Mary's Chief Executive Officer Dr. Arvind Joshi told the Gazette the matter was under review.
