SANTORINI, Greece, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Police said Monday a Greek man killed and decapitated his girlfriend, parading her head through village streets, before he was captured during a car chase.

Authorities said the unidentified man, said to be a 31-year-old chef and resident of the Greek resort island of Santorini, killed his 25-year-old girlfriend after an argument, chopped her head off and walked through the village of Vourvoulos displaying it to horrified onlookers, Ekathimerini.com reported Monday.

The man allegedly lashed out with a knife at an officer who approached him, stole his patrol car and led police on a chase through the village. Police said that during the chase, the man collided with a motorbike, seriously injuring two female doctors who were aboard it, the Web site said.

The suspect was finally apprehended when police blocked the road and shot the man in the leg. He was reportedly taken to the Thira Medical Center for treatment.
