WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Bring the U.S. House of Representatives back into session after the August recess, House Republicans asked Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in a letter.
Republicans on Friday and Monday took to the House floor to discuss energy proposals after representatives left for the traditional August recess.
"We think it is unconscionable that Congress has gone on vacation before we have addressed the high gas prices that are crippling our economy and hurting millions of families," the letter signed by House GOP leadership and others. "We are asking that you reconvene the House from your five-week vacation and schedule a vote on legislation to increase American energy production."
The letter said Republicans "have used every tool at our disposal" to try to get Pelosi and the Democratic majority to vote on legislation that would open up environmentally sensitive areas to oil and gas production, improving energy efficiency and encouraging the development of alternative energy technologies.
The letter said the signers weren't looking for an outcome, "just the chance to vote."
