WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- John McCain's self-admitted lack of technological prowess could be an electoral problem for the Republican U.S. presidential candidate, a consultant says.
Republican consultant David All said the 71-year-old Arizona senator would be well-served to increase his knowledge of modern technology to avoid potential criticism through the remainder of the general election campaign, Politico reported Sunday.
"If I were counseling John McCain, I would have him standing in line for an iPhone," said All, referring to the new multipurpose media device.
The advice comes months after McCain admitted in a January interview that he routinely struggles with the Internet.
"I am an illiterate that has to rely on my wife for all of the assistance that I can get," McCain said of his online efforts.
Politico said McCain supporters say while the senator may struggle with technology on occasion, the electoral focus should remain on his political efforts such as his lengthy work on communications legislation.
