NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The largest commercial jet on the globe made a safe landing at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport after its maiden flight, officials said.

The Emirates Airlines A380 was returning from Dubai with 489 passengers when it landed late Friday afternoon, the New York Daily News reported.

Passengers said the $320 million, double-decker "superjumbo jet" is perfectly comfortable.

"When we got off the flight, I didn't feel like we had been on a 13-1/2-hour flight. We were quite fresh, not tired. It was quite a wonderful experience," passenger Freeda Moraes said of the trip.

The Airbus plane has a wingspan of nearly 262 feet and comes equipped with an in-flight bar tender, private suites and showers, the newspaper said.

"You feel like there was no one else on the plane. The quietness was just divine," passenger Peter Weadley said.
