AHMEDABAD, India, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Indian authorities Friday arrested two people in last Saturday's deadly explosions in Ahmedabad in western Gujarat state.
One of the arrested men is a Bangladeshi, the Press Trust of India reported, quoting police who said they apprehended the two in West Bengal state, which borders Bangladesh, and allegedly recovered from them five crude bombs and other ammunition.
The arrests came after another Gujarat blast suspect gave authorities in New Delhi information about few of one of the suspects' associates.
The death toll from the 16 serial blasts in Ahmedabad was 53 with another 100 people injured.
The blasts came a day after similar serial attacks in India's technology hub of Bangalore in the south in which one woman was killed and dozens more injured. There is no announced suspect in the Bangalore blasts.
Ahmedabad police have also detained Abdul Halim, identified as a member of a banned Muslim terror group and an activist in a religious outfit owing allegiance to Islam's Wahabi sect.
A group calling itself the Indian Mujaheddin has claimed responsibility for both the Bangalore and Ahmedabad attacks.
Separately, at least 23 unexploded bombs were found in in Surat, near Ahmedabad. Surat police said they now have "some leads" but gave no details, PTI said.
