No father for Edwards' supposed child

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- The California birth certificate for the child of a woman who shot video of John Edwards' presidential campaign lists no father, a newspaper said Thursday.

The National Enquirer published a story that said Edwards is the father of Rielle Hunter's child. A former Edwards aide, Andrew Young, has said he is the father.

The Charlotte Observer obtained a copy of the birth certificate, which lists no father, even though Young claimed paternity before the girl was born.

"A lot of women do that," Young's lawyer said when asked why his client's name was not on the birth certificate.

The Enquirer reported last fall that Edwards, the former Democratic senator from North Carolina, had been having an affair with a woman who had been working as a videographer for a documentary on his campaign. The tabloid later reported that she was pregnant and living in Chapel Hill, N.C.
