ST. JOHN'S, Antigua and Barbuda, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A man was taken to Britain in critical condition after he was shot by an intruder who killed his wife on the island of Antigua in the West Indies, police said.
Benjamin Mullany, 31, of Rhos, Wales, was in a coma Friday when he left on a plane headed for Britain, the Guardian reported.
A physician at Antigua's Holberton hospital said he was in poor condition.
Mullany and his new wife, Catherine, were wrapping up their honeymoon last week when an intruder came into their cottage and opened fire, officials said.
The gunman, who officials suspect was trying to rob the couple, fired a bullet into the wife's head and shot her husband in the neck, the newspaper said.
Officials have yet to name any suspects in the shooting and the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Spencer Baldwin, has called on the Scotland Yard to assist in the case.
