Police search for mystery dad and daughter

BOSTON, July 31 (UPI) -- Boston police are searching for a mystery man whose real name and life history are unknown and who is believed to have kidnapped his 7-year-old daughter.

Investigators say that they have been unable to find any trace of Clark Rockefeller before the early 1990s, The Boston Herald reported. They have asked "America's Most Wanted" to feature the case.

Rockefeller appears to have bought gold during his divorce from Sandra Boss, police said, giving him a source of cash that will not leave a paper trail.

Daughter Reigh arrived Sunday for a visit that was supposed to be supervised by a social worker. But her father was able to evade the monitor and vanished with his daughter, police said.

People who knew Rockefeller say he was charming and intelligent. On the Web site of Cafe Society, a Boston literary group, someone said that his reading of Scottish poetry "will send chills down your spine."

"I knew he couldn't be a real Rockefeller," said Kristie Macrakis, a Cafe Society member. "I thought he used that name because it was a chick-attractor, quite frankly. He was definitely some sort of con man, but Clark had a lot to offer as a person."
