Rice Testifies Before Senate Appropriations Committee

WASHINGTON, July 30 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Penn., told reporters Wednesday he would run for another term in office despite his recent battle with cancer.

The 78-year-old Specter met with the media for the first time since completing a 12-week round of chemotherapy aimed at beating back Hodgkin's disease.

The Philadelphia Inquirer said Specter, who wrote a book on his illness and has been in the Senate since 1980, said he would be ready to hit the campaign trail in 2010.

Specter was first diagnosed and treated for Hodgkin's in 2005. When he underwent treatment earlier this year, the disease was not as advanced as it was three years ago, the Inquirer said.
