WASHINGTON, July 29 (UPI) -- Chances of a Barack Obama-Hillary Clinton ticket may be fading, as aides say the likely Democratic presidential nominee wants someone not an insider.
When Sen. Obama, D-Ill., spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, he hinted that his running mate would not be someone strongly identified with Washington, which seemingly would knock his one-time primary rival from the list of potential candidates, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Clinton, the New York senator, told associates recently she thinks there is little chance Obama would tap her and that public comments by some of Obama's aides that she was being considered for the vice president's spot weren't more than a courtesy, the Times said.
Obama's advisers say a key campaign message -- change in Washington -- would be hurt if Obama linked himself to the Clintons, who have dominated Democratic politics since Bill Clinton won the presidency in 1992.
For her part, Hillary Clinton has made clear that she will do whatever Obama wants during the presidential campaign. She has a number of appearances scheduled in the coming months on Obama's behalf, a Clinton aide said.
