WASHINGTON, July 29 (UPI) -- A woman from India claims she was held as a slave, raped and beaten by a Kuwaiti diplomat stationed in Washington.

In a federal lawsuit, the 34-year-old former maid accuses Brig. Gen. Ahmed S.J. al Naser of repeatedly raping her, beating her until she bled and making her work 17 hours per day, seven days per week without pay, ABC News reported Tuesday.

No criminal charges have been filed against Naser, who has since returned to Kuwait, the network said. The woman has met several times with the FBI, which has told Ayuda, a social and legal services provider in Washington, that it is investigating the case.

The woman's attorneys have named the Kuwaiti government as a defendant in the suit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington.

ABC News say the Kuwaiti embassy's chief of mission, Nabil al-Dakheel, did not return calls for comment.
