DIAMOND BAR, Calif., July 29 (UPI) -- A moderate earthquake measuring around 5.4 on the Richter scale shook the Los Angeles area Tuesday morning, seismologists reported.

Cal Tech said the tremor was centered seven miles southeast of Chino Hills, around 27 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Initial reports indicated that there was no damage, although the shaking was felt by many people in downtown L.A. and as far away as San Diego County.

The Southern California Seismic Network in Pasadena, which consists of the U.S. Geological Survey and the Caltech Seismological Laboratory, initially measured the pre-noon quake at 5.8 on the Richter scale but downgraded it to 5.6 and then to 5.4.
