DENVER, July 28 (UPI) -- Denver's mayor said he is against a group's idea to have as many as 50,000 protesters spend the night in City Park during the Democratic National Convention.
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper said he doesn't plan to approve Tent State University's request to have as many as 50,000 protesters camp out in the park, the Rocky Mountain News reported.
Hickenlooper said officials may activate water sprinklers if people are in the park past the city's 11 p.m. curfew during the August convention.
"We want them to have a good, successful event and we're working with them to try to see what kind of possibilities can happen. But I don't see camping in the park as being one of those," Councilwoman Carla Madison told the Rocky Mountain News.
It is expected the protest group will turn in a proposal Aug. 8, detailing the conditions of the sleepover request, the newspaper said.
The Democratic Party's convention is Aug. 25-28.
