GAZA, July 25 (UPI) -- A Qassam rocket was launched onto Palestinian land in western Negev from Gaza, disrupting several days of calm in the region, officials said.

The rocket landed close to the border fence Friday after it was launched from the northern Gaza Strip, Ynetnews reported. No damage or injuries were reported.

The period of calm has been going on for a number of days in Gaza neighborhoods, the report said.

A Qassam rocket touched down close to the Kissufim crossing about a week ago, two days after a rocket hit close to a neighborhood in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, Ynetnews said.

Officials said no damage or injuries were caused in either incident.

A Hamas official said "rocket fire threatens the truce. This is an attempt to thwart the ceasefire rather than respond to Israel's actions."
