BELGRADE, Serbia, July 25 (UPI) -- Radovan Karadzic, the Bosnian Serb leader who became a New Age healer while living in hiding, is keeping to a strict diet in prison.

Karadzic's family said that he is eating only hazelnuts and raisins and drinking only spring water while awaiting extradition from Belgrade to the Netherlands to stand trial for war crimes, The Times of London reported. His family said he is not on hunger strike but simply following dietary practices he believes will extend his life.

Karadzic, a former psychiatrist, used the name Dr. Dragan Drabic while in hiding. Austrian newspapers reported Friday that he traveled to Vienna under his alias and also spent a vacation in Croatia.

A poll found that Serbs are split on the Hague Tribunal. Seventy percent support cooperating with the tribunal, but only 42 percent say that accused war criminals should be extradited to stand trial there. More than half, 54 percent, do not back extraditions.

The poll was conducted by Strategic Marketing for the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, Radio B92 reported.
