Former LA official guilty in bribery trial

LOS ANGELES, July 25 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles jury has found a former Los Angeles airport commission member guilty of 14 counts in his trial on bribery and other corruption charges.

The jury Thursday found Leland Wong not guilty on seven counts including conflict of interest and embezzlement, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Wong, 51, allegedly accepted $100,000 in $5,000 monthly payments from Evergreen Group, a Taipei, Taiwan, company negotiating a lease with the Port of Los Angeles more than four years ago.

During the trial, the defense argued Wong was being unfairly singled out and said Wong had disclosed his dealings with the company in public filings in 2002.
