DELTONA, Fla., July 25 (UPI) -- Officials in a Florida town have been given additional protection after one commissioner found a voodoo doll on her lawn.
Other commissioners in Deltona have reported getting threatening letters, have had their property vandalized, items left on their lawns and at least one case in a mailbox, the Orlando Sentinel reported. The other incidents came to light when Commissioner Zenaida Denizac told her colleagues about the voodoo doll.
The Volusia County sheriff's department has assigned additional patrols near officials' homes. At least one commissioner, Paul Treusch, said he learned of the patrols only when he discovered a deputy examining his recycling bin.
"To all of a sudden have a deputy in my front yard, I'd like to have known about it," Treusch said.
Police said that they have no leads on the voodoo doll.
