NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., July 24 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old Florida surfer said he plans to hit the waves again after a shark attack sent him to the hospital.

David Zettle, of Edgewater, Fla., is the 14th person to be bitten by a shark in Volusia County this year, WESH-TV, Orlando, Fla., reported Thursday.

Zettle was bitten Wednesday while surfing in chest deep water in New Smyrna Beach, WESH said.

The teen's father said his son's foot was in the mouth of the shark.

"It bit me once and I tried to get away, and it bit me again. And then there was a river of blood," Zettle said.

The teen needed about 30 stitches to close his wounds and his parents said they think he will make a full recovery.

Zettle said he would surf again in the waters where he was attacked "if the waves are good."
