FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 24 (UPI) -- The discovery of the decomposed body of a missing 14-year-old Florida girl has not ended questions about her disappearance and death, police said.
Neica Marie Gibbs' body was found Tuesday night, wrapped in a tarp behind a garbage bin just a few feet from a friend's trailer where she was supposed to spend the night when she disappeared three weeks ago, the Miami Herald reported Thursday. Fort Lauderdale police are investigating.
''We need to determine if this is an actual homicide,'' said spokesman Sgt. Frank Sousa. "It's still early in our investigation.''
Gibbs' grandmother, Barbara Queer, had reported the girl missing weeks ago. Fort Lauderdale police could find no signs of foul play.
''We had no reason to believe that she was in danger or that foul play was suspected, based on our conversations with the family,'' Sousa said.
