Mom prays for slain trooper's ailing baby

ASHEVILLE, N.C., July 23 (UPI) -- The widow of a North Carolina state trooper says she is hoping for a miracle to help her ailing infant son who was born two weeks before her husband's death.

Tye Blanton was born seven weeks premature and suffers from a heart condition that requires surgery that is extremely risky at best and has been complicated by neurological issues, the Ashville (N.C.) Citizen Record said Wednesday.

Tye's father, David Blanton, was shot to death June 17 during a traffic stop near Canton.

Michaela Blanton said in a written statement she was touched by the outpouring of support during her ordeal and was "hoping for a miracle, yet praying for peace" for her son.
