TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, July 23 (UPI) -- Rainstorms resulting in flooding and mudslides have displaced nearly 100 Utah families, authorities said.
Flood waters mixed with sewage and sent a mudslide toward a Taylorsville, Utah, complex, displacing 80 families while another 18 families were displaced by flooding of basement apartment units in Kearns, Utah, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday.
Most of the 80 Taylorsville town homes reopened to residents late Tuesday but an evacuation order will continue overnight for 24 of the Taylorsville townhomes where a mudslide and water flowed up to the base of units. Officers reportedly arrived at the scene about 3 p.m. to find some 20 children playing in contaminated water at the playground.
"The kids were playing in the water but it came higher and higher and the kids didn't want to play anymore," Cesar Olivera, 10, who had to evacuate his town home along with his parents and siblings, told the Tribune.
