ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, July 21 (UPI) -- A Pakistani court has ordered nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan freed from house arrest in Islamabad.

Quoting a Geo TV report, ANI said Monday that Khan, regarded as the "father" of Pakistan's nuclear weapons program, would be free to perform research and move about the country after the ruling from Islamabad High Court.

Khan retracted his admission to being involved in a nuclear proliferation ring that allegedly sold weapons components to North Korea, Iran and Libya. He claims to be the victim of a media "smear campaign."

Government officials told the broadcaster the nuclear scientist was a totally free man with no limits over his movements.
