The forecasting center in Miami said Tropical Storm Dolly had reached wind speeds of up to nearly 45 mph in the Caribbean, forcing tropical storm warnings for portions of Mexico and Central America where 4-6 inches of rain was likely with up to 8 inches forecast for the Cayman Islands. The center of the storm was nearly 165 miles southeast of Cozumel, Mexico.
Meanwhile, parts of North Carolina were under a tropical storm warning Sunday as Tropical Storm Cristobal and its 45 mph winds were expected to reach the North Carolina coast Sunday night. Forecasts of additional rainfall leading to coastal storm surge flooding were made for those parts of the state.
Tropical Storm Bertha was demoted from hurricane status as it reached above portions of Iceland and Newfoundland Sunday. Its storm winds were at 70 mph as it traveled across the Atlantic Ocean.
In the Pacific Ocean, Hurricane Fausto was packing 90-mph winds but was heading northwest, 370 miles southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The storm was expected to lose strength during the next few days.
