Family members of Rodney Wells allege staff at Kings County Hospital Center misidentified the 55-year-old as Wayne Thomas and then refused to fix the oversight despite multiple pleas, the New York Post reported Sunday.
Wells' daughter, Reshena, contends she saw another man's name on the plastic identification bracelet hospital staff gave her father after he suffered a heart attack July 11.
She said she allegedly informed hospital staff of the mistake, but was told such changes needed proper identification. While obtaining her father's identification, he died.
The Post said while the hospital has since claimed to have updated its records, medical examiner spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said the body is still identified as Thomas. Borakove added that the hospital had offered a note saying the body may be that of Wells.
