WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., July 20 (UPI) -- A Florida woman's wedding day turned to tragedy when her 4-year-old son died after being locked in a hot vehicle, police said.

Mirlande Jean-Baptiste, 29, of Lake Worth was at a West Palm Beach, Fla., salon Saturday preparing for the ceremony, apparently unaware her child was in her sport utility vehicle, which was parked outside for three hours in 89-degree heat, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Sgt. Pete Palenzuela of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office told the newspaper the child may have sneaked back into the car when other children Jean-Baptiste had been transporting were left off earlier.

"The mother is traumatized," he said.

The boy was pronounced dead at Palms West Hospital in Loxahatchee, Fla., the Sun-Sentinel said.
