SIIRT, Turkey, July 17 (UPI) -- A minibus transporting 15 students struck a land mine in an eastern province of Turkey, leaving two people injured, officials said.

The two injured people were taken to a hospital after the explosion took place in the Eruh district of Siirt province, Hurriyet reported Thursday.

Officials said the land mine was put in place by Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, separatists, who often plant remote-control explosives with the intent of bombing Turkish security soldiers, the report said.

Hurriyet said the PKK is known as a terrorist group in Turkey and many other countries and organizations around the world, such as the European Union and United States.
