Legendary monument to be restored

VENICE, Italy, July 17 (UPI) -- Venice's famous 17th century Bridge of Sighs monument will be restored over the next three years, Italian authorities announced.

Workers expect to have scaffolding in place by September to allow assessment of damage to the legendary bridge and facades of buildings linked to it, the Ducal Palace and prison of the Doges, ANSA reported.

The white marble landmark was designed by Antonio Contino and built between 1600 and 1603.
