Munitions blast kills 9 in Chechnya

MOSCOW, July 16 (UPI) -- A munitions cache accidentally exploded in Chechnya, leaving nine soldiers dead, military officials said.

Officials at the North Caucasian military district headquarters told ITAR-TASS seven of the servicemen were killed instantly and the other two died later at a hospital.

"Munitions exploded accidentally, as they were being reloaded from a tank into a truck on the location of the 70th regiment of the North Caucasian military district in the town of Shali at 5:15 p.m. Moscow time," the Defense Ministry told the Russian news agency.
