WASHINGTON, July 15 (UPI) -- Some Washington Democrats say campaign officials for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., are turning a cold shoulder to their pleas for party unity for November.
"They think they know what's right and everyone else is wrong on everything," one senior Senate Democratic aide told Politico, a Washington publication. "They are kind of insufferable at this point."
On the record, officers of Democratic leaders and election campaign committees said they're pleased with the coordination effort they're getting from the Obama campaign, sources told Politico.
But among the slights insiders say they've endured from the party's likely presidential candidate are almost no warning when Obama visits a Congress member's district and little fundraising for Democratic candidates until recently. The sources also told Politico the Obama campaign hasn't, until recently, coordinated a daily message with congressional Democrats, leaving members hanging when asked to respond to the back-and-forth commentary between Obama and his likely Republican challenger, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
Obama spokesman Bill Burton dismissed the criticism as complaints of staffers who don't know about the about the campaign's coordination efforts with Capitol Hill.
"It's a favorite parlor game in Washington for low-level staff to take shots at anyone they can, given the opportunity," Burton told Politico.
