NOGALES, Ariz., July 15 (UPI) -- Two bodies were found floating in the Nogales Wash by crews repairing a damaged section of the concrete-lined water channel in Arizona.
Repair workers Monday spotted the bodies in the water, said Jesus Gomez, a fire marshal with the Nogales Fire Department.
The Arizona Daily Star reported the men were believed to have been illegal immigrants trying to get into the United States through the underground tunnel.
The newspaper reported that illegal immigrants, as well as drug runners, use the underground tunnels beneath Nogales to sneak into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Saturday rescued three illegal immigrants trapped in the wash.
"It is something we are concerned with and something that happens every year," said Brian Levin, Customs and Border Protection spokesman. "It is an extremely dangerous thing to do -- it goes without saying."
