GALENA PARK, Texas, July 12 (UPI) -- Investigators in Texas said Friday they had confirmed a teenage girl delivered a fetus but they have not been able to find it in her yard.

"It's been 30 days since the girl claims her mother buried the fetus so I believe it could have decomposed quite quickly in this heat," Chief Robert Pruett of the Galena Park Police Department told KTRK-TV, Houston.

Alma Perez, the teenager's aunt, said the 16-year-old wanted the child, the Houston Chronicle reported. But Perez said Leticia Zamora, a nurse, gave her daughter drugs to induce an abortion and then buried the fetus.

It was unclear whether either the teenager or Zamora would face charges. Pruett told the Chronicle Thursday Zamora might be charged with abuse of a corpse if the fetus could be found, since burying it was illegal.
