Prosecutors ask for student's indictment

PERUGIA, Italy, July 11 (UPI) -- Italian prosecutors asked for indictments Friday against a U.S. student and her Italian boyfriend, both suspected of killing her British roommate.

Amanda Knox, a student at the University of Washington, and Raffaele Sollecito were arrested in November, a few days after Meredith Kercher's body was found in the cottage she and Knox shared with two other young women.

Prosecutors in Perugia also want an indictment against Rudy Hermann Guede, who holds dual citizenship in Italy and the Ivory Coast, ABC News reported.

Under Italian law, suspects can be held for up to a year without formal charges. A judge will set a date for a hearing, probably in September, to determine whether there is enough evidence for an indictment.

Knox turned 21 this week in jail. Sollecito sent her yellow anthuriums with a note that read "Happy Birthday. I hope justice prevails soon," his lawyer, Luca Maori, said.

Sollecito and Knox say that they were at Sollecito's apartment the night Kercher was killed.
