KIEV, Ukraine, July 11 (UPI) -- A push by some lawmakers in Ukraine to give the government of Premier Yulia Tymoshenko a no-confidence vote has failed to muster the support needed to pass.

A total of 174 members of parliament supported the motion, 52 votes short, RIA Novosti reported.

The no-confidence vote was initiated by former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych's opposition Party of Regions.

They claimed the government has failed to tackle economic difficulties in the country.

The 2008 inflation rate in Ukraine was 14.6 percent through May, the Russian new service reported.

Itar-Tass reported that Parliament Speaker Arseni Yatsenyuk said Timoshenko had agreed that the no-confidence vote should be discussed ahead of other matters on Friday's agenda.
