TUCSON, July 10 (UPI) -- Authorities in Tucson said they have seized two tons of marijuana and arrested two men who were allegedly planning to sell the drug.

Sgt. Mark Morlock of the Tucson-area Counter Narcotics Alliance said Arnulfo Vega Montano, a Mexican citizen who is in the United States illegally, and Guillermo Garcia were arrested and taken to the Pima County Jail after authorities received a tip that a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche being driven by Montano was being used for drug running, the Tucson (Ariz.) Citizen reported Thursday.

Agents said they determined that Montano's vehicle was being escorted by a car driven by Garcia.

Morlock said 800 pounds of marijuana were found in the Avalanche and the rest was found during a search of Garcia's home.

Montano, who was being held without bail Thursday, was arrested on suspicion of transportation of marijuana, while Garcia, who was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to transport marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a firearm during a drug offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
