Light shed on feet washed ashore in Canada

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, July 10 (UPI) -- Canadian police and coroner's officials shed some light Thursday on five human feet found washed ashore in British Columbia in the past year.

At a Vancouver news conference, Coroners Service spokesman Jeff Dolan said a man's right foot found on Valdez Island in February and a left foot found on Westham Island in June had been matched through DNA testing, the Vancouver Sun reported.

Dolan said DNA had also determined one of the feet, found in May, belonged to a woman, the report said.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokeswoman Constable Annie Linteau said lists of missing persons from the province began with 243 men and 159 women, but 130 of the men were eliminated as possible matches, CTV News reported.

Linteau said there was no evidence to connect all of the incidents, and said foul play wasn't evident from the remains, the Sun said.

"It appears that these feet have naturally disarticulated from the body through a natural process," Linteau said.
