HIROSHIMA, Japan, July 9 (UPI) -- Rare photographs taken shortly after the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima have been discovered in the home of a man who lives in the city.

The photos, showing the devastation the World War II bombing caused in the city center, were taken by Yoshihiro Nakamae's father in September or October of 1945, The Yomiuri Shimbun reported Wednesday.

One of the photographs shows the number 101 written on the concrete wall of a warehouse that was located less than half a mile from the center of the blast. Other photos are of rarely recorded images like a bent utility pole and the remains of the Honkawabashi bridge, The Yomiuri Shimbun said.

Nakamae has donated the 11 photographs to the Hiroshima Peace museum where they will be on display beginning at the end of July.
