NEW YORK, July 9 (UPI) -- For the third time since the New York Times building opened in Manhattan a year ago, police Wednesday arrested a climber on the 52-story structure.
The man, identified as anti-al-Qaida activist David Malone, 29, was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after he unfurled a banner reading, "Bin Laden's Plan," The New York Times reported.
Unlike the two previous climbers who scaled their way to the building's roof, Malone only climbed to the seventh floor. He was taken out of the building in handcuffs at 5:39 a.m. and transported by ambulance to St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan. Police told the Times charges were pending.
Newspaper officials say the climbing episodes have become an embarrassment for them. Two men scaled the building June 5 and famed French stuntman Alain Robert climbed it last year. The Times said what appears to be Malone's Web site states he's "independently researching bin Laden and publicly advocating the aggressive isolation and destruction of al-Qaida."
