Group denouces Iran juvenile executions

GENEVA, Switzerland, July 8 (UPI) -- A group of 24 human rights groups Tuesday called on Iran to spare four juveniles facing execution in the country.

The group Today 24, based in Geneva, Switzerland, says Behnoud Shojaee and Mohammad Feda'i face execution on Friday. Both were to be executed on June 11 but received last-minute, month-long reprieves to give them more time to seek pardons from the families of their victims.

At least two other juvenile offenders also face execution in the coming days, the group said, calling on the head of Iran's judiciary to suspend the four executions immediately.

Iran executed 16-year-old Mohammad Hassanzadeh, an Iranian Kurd, June 10 for a crime committed when he was 14. Iranian judiciary officials denied that Hassanzadeh had been under 18 at the time of his execution.
