Small cruise ship runs aground in Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska, July 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Coast Guard says there is no immediate danger to the 51 people aboard a cruise ship that ran aground near Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska.

The Spirit of Glacier Bay became stuck in Tarr Inlet Monday morning, but suffered no apparent hull damage. No injuries were reported.

The Coast Guard said in a written statement a boom had been deployed around the 178-foot ship as a precaution against fuel leaks while a cutter and two other vessels were standing by at the scene.

The weather in Tarr Inlet was described as clear skies and calm seas.
